Plimsoll Productions is looking at the UK’s dependence on long-term prescribed medication in a single doc for Channel 4.

Hour-long Live Well with the Drug Free Doctor is presented by author Dr Rangan Chatterjee who will meet three Brits who were all on long-term costly prescriptions but sought new ways to manage their medical disorders – type 2 diabetes, chronic pain and depression – by other means.

Chatterjee, alongside some of the world’s leading experts, will share alternative perspectives to medication that can better support their health and wellbeing and how lifestyle changes can improve, or even reverse, conditions like these.

He will also provide tips and tricks to viewers and bust myths and attitudes around some health trends, while the three contributors will share their accounts of changing their day-to-day routines, including spending time in nature, workout plan and dietary changes.

Live Well with the Drug Free Doctor was commissioned by Clemency Green, senior commissioning editor, with Jo Street, director of commissioning, nations and regions and head of lifestyle. It is exec produced by Karen Plumb and Andrea Jackson, with Rory Jackson directing. ITV Studios will handle international distribution.

Green said: “We’re all looking for ways to feel better, and with the help of Dr Chatterjee, we hope our viewers can learn about approaches that may help each of us start the new year feeling better.”

Plumb, head of factual entertainment at ITVS-owned Plimsoll, added: “Dr Chatterjee is an extraordinary health communicator. It is a privilege to be working with him for this documentary to investigate ways we can adapt our lifestyles to feel healthier.”

Live Well with the Drug Free Doctor will air on C4 and stream on its platform in the new year.
